The concept of MolecularMD grew out of discussions with Oregon Health Science University (OHSU) investigators, where the critical needs of chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) patients were revealed. These patients often develop a wide range of genetic aberrations during the progression of their disease. Because of this, they require accurate and reliable molecular diagnosis to determine if alternative therapies or higher doses of imatinib (GleevecŪ) are the recommended course of action. Moreover, highly accurate and reproducible molecular monitoring of residual disease in CML patients is critical for reliable assessment of current therapy efficacy.
The company's ultimate goal is to become the leader in targeted molecular assays for oncodiagnostics and, eventually, for all of personalized medicine.
